The Jam were an English band playing both punk and rock Live Music, which had – and doubtlessly still has – many fans all over the world. Their Live Music was the most popular in late 1970s and early 1980s but their albums still have a high sales rating.
Music of the band can be called exceptional. Musicians took advantage of many popular that days kinds of Music. They were influenced by both beat music and soul but mainly by psychedelic and punk rock. They began their career as a local band but soon their popularity as well as the number of people who wanted to see them Live rapidly grew. It was partly because of a charismatic personality of a band leader – Paul Weller. Many people wanted to experience the Live concert of the group mainly because of him. Let’s not forget about the fact that after finishing his work with The Jam, Weller started his solo career, which was also successful. His Music created after living the group also had many admirers.
But let’s get back to group. When they became something more than just a local star of a small English town called Woking (where they were formed) they decided to play Live in some bigger British cities. For instance, they gave a few performances in London. That was a milestone in their career. More people became interested in their music. We have to be aware of the fact that there was a craze for Music and, generally, culture connected with punk on that time. That’s why so many people desired to participate in their concerts and enjoy the Live Music of the band. Some of them were real punks but many simply wanted to experience something extraordinary – or maybe even exotic? Nevertheless, listening to The Jam’s Live Music became a must for many people that time. Nowadays it’s essential to have at least their CD if you call yourself a punk or you are interested in this subculture.
